Helen has over 35 years’ experience working in amputee rehabilitation predominantly in the NHS and since 2020, in private practise. She is a member of the Health and Care Professions Council, The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and The British Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Amputee Rehabilitation.

Helen has worked with patients prior to their amputation and in the early stages after surgery, through to the final stages of rehabilitation with and without a prosthesis. In 2005, she specialised in outpatient prosthetic rehabilitation at WestMARC, Glasgow developing the service for children, high activity adults and latterly, the physiotherapy service for patients undergoing osseointegration surgery.

Helen has always been passionate about ensuring quality of care for people with limb absence so that they are supported to achieve their best possible outcome through rehabilitation. She was an inaugural member and for 10 years, chair of the Scottish Physiotherapy Amputee Research Group (SPARG), a group that continues to measure outcomes of rehabilitation for people who acquire amputation in Scotland.

Since being in the private clinic Helen values the time she has to work 1:1 with patients both in the clinical setting and in the community building confidence and skills where it counts whether it is a walk in the park, getting on and off a bus or tackling the climbing wall. She is committed to multidisciplinary team working and carries out joint assessments and treatment sessions with her prosthetic colleague, David Morrison.

One of her proudest achievements was to be the winner of the Scottish Government’s Scottish Health Awards “Therapist Award” in 2019 for clinical leadership and improving quality of patient care.

Outside of work Helen loves to walk her rescue dog Bonnie, climb the Scottish hills with friends and family, ride her bike and potter in her allotment.
