Jane Cunningham

Jane Cunningham joins our Amersham clinic team as a highly experienced prosthetist with a strong foundation in both clinical care and healthcare management.

Originally from Galway, Ireland, Jane now lives in Cambridge, where she has spent the past three years working as a prosthetist at the Cambridge Prosthetic & Orthotic service (CPOS) at Cambridge university hospitals (CUH). Since August 2022, she has also held the position of clinical lead. Jane brings over six years of prosthetic experience to her role, underpinned by a deep passion for biomechanics and patient-centred care.

Jane’s career path into prosthetics began with a sports science degree in Ireland, followed by three years in healthcare quality management—a role that laid the foundation for her eventual transition into clinical work. Her passion for physics, biomechanics, and helping others led her to Salford University, where she trained as a prosthetist. Before starting the course, she spent a day shadowing at Ottobock Care in Dublin—and within the first half hour, Jane knew this was the role for her.

During her early career at Ottobock Care in Dublin, Jane was mentored by an experienced and multidisciplinary team, which she credits as pivotal in shaping her clinical approach. In the UK, she has embraced the wider scope of prosthetic services, including work with microprocessor knees and upper limb prostheses.

Jane is particularly interested in sports prosthetics and paediatrics, areas where she enjoys combining her early academic background with her clinical expertise. She takes great pride in the finer aspects of prosthetic alignment, finding joy in the small tweaks that can make a significant difference in a patient’s gait and quality of life.

Outside of work, Jane enjoys cycling around Cambridge, spending time in nature, and staying active at the gym. Growing up in rural Ireland, she has a strong connection to the outdoors and still cherishes time spent with friends and watching Gaelic football.

Jane is thrilled to be joining the team in Amersham and looks forward to the new challenge, working collaboratively with colleagues, and continuing to help patients regain their mobility and independence.
