Information for Defendant & Insurers
At Dorset Orthopaedic, we recognise the important role defendant and insurers play in facilitating patients with a litigation claim to access the rehabilitation, prosthetic and orthotic support needed, following life changing injuries, to return to as near pre-incident position as is possible. You can rely on our team to provide clear, objective assessments across our comprehensive clinical services. Guided by decades of specialist expertise, our clinicians take the time to understand each individual's unique presentation, to provide clinically appropriate costed recommendations that reflect the claimant’s current abilities, anticipated future needs and achievable pathway towards greater independence.
To make the process straightforward for everyone involved, we follow a clear and supportive referral pathway that ensures each claimant receives timely, coordinated care. If you would like to discuss a potential instruction or find out more about our Defendant and Insurers services, our team is here to help.
1. Referral
Instructions can be made directly, or via a case manager, and our team will coordinate everything needed to arrange a clinical assessment, gathering the relevant background information and ensure the assessment takes places as quickly and efficiently as possible.
2. Clinical Evaluation
Claimants are assessed by our experienced clinicians who have specialist knowledge in limb difference, complex rehabilitation and long‑term functional outcomes. We focus on the individual’s needs, abilities and goals while considering long‑term sustainability of care.
3. Clear Reporting
We provide structured reports provision and outline longer-term care pathways. Reports include:
- Clinical findings
- Functional assessments
- Prosthetic/orthotic requirements
- Rehabilitation recommendations
- Short‑ and long‑term considerations
4. Ongoing Communication
We maintain open communication throughout the process, keeping insurers updated on progress, any changes, or additional information that may be required.
5. Follow Up & Review
Where needed, we offer follow‑up consultations to ensure recommendations remain appropriate as a client's condition, function or goals evolve.
