Patients enjoy a special day at Scropton RDA

Patients recently enjoyed a memorable day out at Scropton Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA), where they had the opportunity to meet the horses, learn new skills and experience something a little different.

Throughout the day, patients got involved in a range of activities, including learning how to groom the horses and finding out more about how they are cared for. They also helped to track the horses up before having the chance to get in the saddle and enjoy a ride.

As well as being a fun and memorable experience, horse riding can offer a range of physical and emotional benefits. It can support emotional regulation, confidence and independence, while also helping to develop balance, coordination and core strength.

For Mel, who attended the day, spending time with the horses had a particularly positive impact.

The horses lifted my heart and made me realise I can do stuff that I’ve shielded away from. I felt stronger mentally than I have for a good while.

The day provided patients with the chance to step outside of their usual routines, try something new and discover what they are capable of in a supportive and encouraging environment.

A huge thank you to everyone at Scropton RDA and all those who helped make the day such a special and positive experience for our patients.
