STIL Orthosis
Millions of people worldwide live with tremors caused by conditions like Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, or MS. Tremors are often difficult to treat and make simple daily tasks, like eating, drinking, extremely difficult and frustrating.
The STIL Orthosis is a passive and non-invasive medical device that suppresses tremors in the forearm. By adding artificial damping to the joints in the forearm, the tremor is suppressed without restricting natural movement. Lightweight and compact, the STIL Orthosis is comfortable to wear. It offers a simple, effective way to make everyday tasks easier and to perform them with greater independence.
Mechanical joint damping
The STIL Orthosis suppresses action tremors in the wrist and forearm by means of mechanical damping. In this way it reduces tremors while it allows voluntary motion.
The STIL Orthosis has the following features:
- Effects are immediately visible
- Lightweight (~350 grams)
- Can be worn under or over clothing
- Completely passive (no electricity, batteries, or muscle stimulation)
Who is the orthosis suitable for?
Action tremor
An action tremor occurs with voluntary muscle activity, for example when performing an action, or maintaining a posture. A resting tremor, occurs when the muscles are relaxed, for example when the arm is resting on a table.
The STIL Orthosis can be effective for action tremors (e.g. postural or kinetic), but has little effect on resting tremors.
Distal tremor
The orthosis is worn on the forearm and is designed to suppress forearm and wrist tremors, which are types of distal tremor.
Proximal tremors, such as tremors in the shoulder or elbow, are not suppressed by the orthosis.
Trying the orthosis
The STIL Orthosis is available at all of our nationwide clinics. We offer a free assessment with a free home trial where patients can try the orthosis while performing everyday tasks, both with and without it, to understand the difference it can make.
Our clinicians work closely with each patient to identify the most suitable treatment. Contact us today to learn more about the STIL Orthosis and see if it’s right for you.
