Life-Changing Comeback: Teen Boxer Ollie Defies Rare Cancer and Fundraising for the Genium X4
A young amateur boxer’s life was changed instantly after a routine training session led to a devastating diagnosis and life-changing surgery. Ollie, at the time was just 15, suffered a fracture to his lower limb, which after lots of investigations and tests, revealed a rare form of bone cancer.
Just before his 16th birthday, Ollie underwent an above-knee amputation. Despite the challenges, he committed himself fully to rehabilitation, determined to regain his independence and return to the sport he loved.
With support from the NHS, Ollie was fitted with an Ottobock C-Leg 4 prosthetic limb, enabling him to walk again, resume boxing, and carry out most of his daily activities. However, Ollie knew that the Ottobock Genium X4 was for him.
Through crowdfunding efforts and donations from family, friends, and the boxing community, Ollie raised the necessary funds. Working with Dorset Orthopaedic, he achieved his goal of receiving the Genium X4 in time for his 18th birthday.
“The X4 has allowed me to take things to the next level,” Ollie said. “The C-Leg was good, but there were things it just wouldn’t let me do. Going up stairs step over step is a big one, and how easily I can handle slopes. The walk-to-run feature is amazing. I can honestly say I no longer feel disabled—it’s allowed me to do pretty much everything I could before. Plus, it looks awesome.”
