Dorset Orthopaedic’s Moose Baxter Presents at ISPO France on Transhumeral Osseointegration and the RECOVERY Model
Sharing Expertise on an International Stage
Dorset Orthopaedic’s Head of Clinical Services (and Prosthetist), Moose Baxter, was delighted to be invited to present at ISPO France in Lyon this week. His presentation highlighted the extensive experience Dorset Orthopaedic has gained over the past decade working with patients who have undergone transhumeral osseointegration, an area in which the team has developed world leading expertise.
“It was a real honour to be asked to present at ISPO France,” said Moose. “Sharing what we have learned from over ten years of experience in this field is always exciting, and it is great to see the global prosthetics community engaging with the potential of osseointegration and advanced upper limb rehabilitation.”
Experience in Transhumeral Osseointegration
Over the last decade, Dorset Orthopaedic has supported many patients through the complex and lengthy rehabilitation process following osseointegration surgery. Achieving the goal of restoring as much natural arm function as possible is challenging, but the outcomes seen in terms of function, comfort and independence have been remarkable.
This extensive experience means the Dorset Orthopaedic team is uniquely positioned to support patients through every stage of the process; from initial consultation to advanced prosthetic fitting and ongoing rehabilitation.
Introducing the RECOVERY Model
A central part of Moose’s presentation focused on Dorset Orthopaedic’s bespoke RECOVERY model, a structured approach developed specifically to break down the rehabilitation journey into clear and measurable milestones.
Originally pioneered by our team at our Egham clinic, but now adopted at all of our sites, this model helps patients and their Case Managers understand what to expect at each stage, track progress and celebrate achievements along the way, providing clarity and motivation throughout the rehabilitation process.
“Our RECOVERY model has really helped to make the process more transparent,” explained Moose. “It allows patients to see just how far they have come, recognise their successes and stay motivated through what can be a demanding journey.”
Advanced Prosthetic Technology and Specialist Rehabilitation
The Dorset Orthopaedic team combines cutting edge prosthetic technologies with specialist functional upper limb therapy delivered by highly experienced clinicians.
This often includes the use of paattern recognition myoelectric control systems, powered elbows and a variety of options of multi grip prosthetic hands.
Each patient’s rehabilitation is goal oriented. Ongoing and regular sessions often include outcome measures being recorded and functional goals being reviewed and updated as they’re achieved.
“We are incredibly passionate about the difference this combination of advanced surgical techniques and tailored rehabilitation can make,” said Moose. “We see tangible, life changing improvements in people’s ability to return to work, participate in everyday life and regain independence.”
Nationwide Centres of Excellence
With clinics across the UK in Ringwood, Egham, Amersham, Burton upon Trent, Manchester and Glasgow, Dorset Orthopaedic offers high level upper limb prosthetic rehabilitation for patients with or without osseointegration.
The same level of specialist care, experience and multidisciplinary teamwork is available at each site, ensuring every patient receives the best possible treatment and support, wherever they are based.
Pioneering the Future of Upper Limb Rehabilitation
As this field continues to evolve, Dorset Orthopaedic remains at the forefront, working alongside patients, its multidisciplinary clinical team, and surgical partners at Relimb to pioneer new ways of restoring function and improving quality of life.
