We fully understand that residential rehabilitation is not for everyone, and our therapy teams are more than happy to see clients for regular outpatient appointments instead. Whilst many of our clients travel significant distances to reach us, staying away from home for periods of time can seem daunting for both the client and their family and many chose to participate in outpatient-based rehabilitation for this reason.

Outpatient rehab can take many forms, from short sessions once a week, to half or full days and can be spread out over a time frame that suits the clients’ particular needs - each package is bespoke.

There is no ‘right’ way of participating in therapy and we can be flexible to suit the individual. All that we ask is that they turn up and give it a go!

What might outpatient sessions involve?

  • Clinic based rehabilitation working on gait biomechanics, soft tissue management, learning prosthetic/orthotic skills and starting strength and conditioning work. These sessions would often be joint with our prosthetic and/or orthotic colleagues to meet the clients needs.
  • Sessions in the local area such as trips to the park, walking around a town, visiting a supermarket, walking in areas of uneven terrain, trips to a busy shopping centre, accessing public transport to name but a few.
  • Many clients wish to return to sports but lack the confidence to try this on their own. During outpatient sessions, our therapists can support clients with accessing a local gym or swimming pool as well as assisting with introductions to adaptive sport such as skiing with Disability Snow Sport UK or learning to climb using a prosthesis or orthosis at the local climbing wall.
