Our physiotherapy team at Dorset Orthopaedic are experts in helping anyone affected by injury or disability. Whilst we mainly help patients through their prosthetic journey, we have many years of experience in outpatient clinics which enables us to provide a rounded approach to rehabilitation. We work closely with our orthotists to support recovery after spinal cord injury or other neurological problems such as strokes or head injuries.
Examples of other conditions which we treat are:
- Back and neck pain
- Upper and lower limb problems
- Sprains and strains
- Sports injuries
Our experienced physiotherapists form an integral part of our multi-disciplinary team. Having access to a holistic prosthetic service ensures that you not only get the most suitable components, but the tools and knowledge to ensure you achieve maximum mobility and independence.
Whilst the mainstay of physiotherapy treatment is an exercise-based approach we also offer:
- Manual therapy, such as joint mobilisation
- Therapeutic massage
- Gait analysis
Physio sessions can be incorporated as part of a treatment package with a new prosthesis or as a standalone service. During the initial consultation, patients will have the opportunity to discuss their expectations, set goals and receive a clear strategy to ensure these are met.
We also offer specialist residential rehabilitation packages combining prosthetic provision with in-depth and intensive one-on-one physio in a residential setting with up to six hours of therapy a day.
Packages can range from a matter of days to weeks, dependent on specific rehabilitation needs and goals and can be tailored to include nutritional and psychological support.
