Thousands of people suffer with drop foot every day after surviving a stroke or living with conditions such as Charcot-Marie-Tooth or Multiple Sclerosis. At Dorset Orthopaedic, we have an award winning solution in the form of the Silicone Ankle Foot Orthosis (SAFO), which can free you from those troublesome walking difficulties caused by drop foot.
The SAFO is a revolutionary product that works by supporting the front of the leg down to the top of the foot, helping to lift the foot during walking.
An attractive and comfortable alternative to traditional rigid AFOs (Ankle Foot Orthoses), the SAFO instils a new found sense of confidence by improving balance and correcting foot placement. It is available for adults and children in a range of skin tone and bright colours, which can also be customised by adding images and designs, so it’s truly unique to you.
The SAFO Classic offers a sleek and functional design and fits perfectly to your unique measurements. Often imitated but never matched, the SAFO Classic is the original and probably the best drop foot solution available to meet your everyday needs.
The SAFO Sport brings a new dimension and is new for 2019. It gives you additional support during high impact activities such as hiking, running and a variety of other sports. Enquire today or book an assessment.
What to Expect
During an initial consultation, which will take approximately one hour, we will take a full medical and orthotic history. We will discuss lifestyle, hobbies and what you are wanting to achieve by using the SAFO. We will conduct an examination looking at range of movement and muscle activity in the legs as well as assessing your gait.
We will then be able to trial a sample SAFO on for you to use in and outside of the clinic testing it on steps, uneven ground and putting it into footwear. At this stage if you wish to proceed a cast and measurements will need to be taken. As the SAFO is entirely bespoke we can adjust the stiffening, trim lines and colours, tailored to your needs.
If the SAFO is deemed not suitable, our orthotist will be able to offer you alternative orthotic solutions.
