Dawn Crofts - Prosthetist

Having graduated from the University of Salford in 1999, Dawn joined Dorset Orthopaedic’s Midlands Clinic in May 2015. Dawn started her career as a Prosthetist in a large NHS limb centre in Selly Oak, Birmingham where she gained experience in fitting limbs for all levels of amputation. From Selly Oak, Dawn went on to be a Senior Prosthetist in Wolverhampton and then, in 2006, moved to Wrexham Limb Centre to take the role of Prosthetic Manager. Within this role Dawn specialised in paediatrics and upper limb prosthetics, fitting prostheses, managing the department and co-ordinating the multidisciplinary team.

For Dawn, the best part of her job is getting to know the patient. Finding out about their life means that she can prescribe prosthetic components that are tailored to their individual needs helping them to live their life as they choose.

One of her most memorable and rewarding patient experiences was seeing a young child come into her clinic room in a wheelchair and leave on their new prosthesis, running with joy down the corridor.

The positive and supportive team at Dorset Orthopaedic also also play a part in Dawn’s motivation. There is never a dull moment and no two days are ever the same. Outside of work Dawn spends time with her two daughters and enjoys gardening, looking after her pets and running.
