From looking better when you walk, improving your general fitness or simply reducing aches and pains, our expert physiotherapists can teach you exercises that help you make best use of your new prosthetic or orthotic device.

Whatever your needs, the Physiotherapy clinic will create a specific exercise programme tailored to your needs. Including strengthening, stretching and balance exercises, the programme will help you improve posture, enhance movement and reduce pain.

There are 5 physiotherapy packages available: -


General principles of good posture with basic exercises to help with gait retraining 1 session.
Recommended for:

  • Amputees who have previously had some physiotherapy and want a reminder, and
  • all amputees who are fitted with new prosthetic components.


This includes Primary Update Session.
Step by step progression of gait training
Identify any muscle & joint imbalances that need to be addressed
Includes a range of individualised exercises
Includes liaison with a local physiotherapist if required
On-going email support with rehabilitation.
4 Sessions.
Recommended for:

  • Amputees who have had little or no physiotherapy before
  • Amputees who do not feel confident with their previous physiotherapy programme


Covers techniques to safely get on and off the floor
Includes steps, ramps and stair training
Includes variation of speed and outdoor walking techniques
2 sessions
Recommended for

  • all amputees.


Includes packages Gait re-education package and Functional retraining package.
Recommended for:

  • Amputees who have had little or no physiotherapy before
  • Amputees who do not feel confident with their previous physiotherapy programme


Includes acupuncture and mirror box therapy – (3 full sessions required)
Assessment of suitability for acupuncture for pain relief
Clients are taught how to use self acupressure techniques if appropriate
Mirror Box phantom pain management
Recommended for:

  • Amputees whose phantom limb pain is not well controlled
