The C-Leg® microprocessor-controlled prosthetic knee by Ottobock started a revolution for above‑knee amputees. Since it was introduced in the U.S. in 1999, more than 40,000 people worldwide have taken advantage of the unparalleled stability offered by the C-Leg. The most clinically evaluated microprocessor knee in history, C-Leg is backed by evidence demonstrating increased efficacy in safety, energy efficiency and cost effectiveness when compared to other prosthetic knees.
The new Wireless Remote Control makes it practical and easy to switch modes with a simple push of a button. A standing mode that can be activated in addition to the other modes provides even more stability and safety. This makes it possible to stabilize the C-Leg at every flexion angle regardless of dynamic alignment – without expending muscle energy.
A knee joint sensor measures step length and frequency, transmitting this information for the dynamic control of the swing phase. An impact sensor records the heel strike and forefoot load via strain gauges, ensuring a safe stance. Whether walking up or down stairs, on level ground, slopes, or uneven terrain, the integrated microprocessor coordinates all measurement and control processes and ensures that the damping of the hydraulic unit is properly adapted in real time to the respective situation. This is how the C-Leg® ensures a natural gait at all times, regardless of walking speed or step length.
