Simon
suffered a terrible motorbike accident, which resulted in a loss of his leg
below the knee. Simon was a Fireman working on active duty, a keen sportsman
with a young family, so this accident was a terrible blow to him and he was
very much in need of support. I managed to provide him with a set of prostheses
which enabled him to return to active duty as a Fireman. With little or no
concessions to his disability. Simon and his family have just returned from
a holiday in Australia and he feels he is now living life to the full. Interestingly,
Simon managed to damage the foot on his high-activity prosthesis while out
running. This was the foot that he used while on active duty and therefore,
it was imperative that he had the prosthesis back as soon as possible. We
were able to repair the limb and return it to him within 2 days much to his
relief. For us we feel a strong obligation to support Simon in his duties
as a Fireman.
Mark Ledger, Senior Prosthetist
"I
was lucky to survive a motorcycle accident in July 2004. Health issues meant
the hospital had to amputate my leg. My life fell apart. I believed my career
as a fireman was over. As a father, I felt I couldn't be a proper Dad to my
children, but my girlfriend was great. She inspired me to get out and about
again. We'd heard Dorset Orthopaedic were the best in the country. While the NHS had got me back on my feet, it couldn't provide a prosthesis that would get me back to work, but Mark Ledger from Dorset Orthopaedic was fantastic. Getting a prosthesis I needed was as much a challenge for him as for me.
The personal care Dorset Orthopaedic provides is second to none. From the moment you arrive at their clinic, they take you seriously and do everything they can to create the perfect prosthesis. The leg I have now has given me a new lease of life. Not only have I returned to work, I've been promoted.
The accident wasn't my fault, so we chose Irwin Mitchell solicitors to pursue a legal claim. As one of the best law firms in the country for personal injury, they presented an excellent case and put me in touch with the finest professionals in the field.Throughout, I was motivated to return to work. However, I couldn't have achieved all this without the help of family, friends, the fire service, and Dorset Orthopaedic. I'm indebted to their support."
