PC Griffiths
Up
until the loss of his arm above the shoulder, PC Griffiths was an officer
with the Metropolitan Police’s riot squad. The fact that Phillip was
contemplating a return to active duty shows a deep determination. We worked
with Phillip to produce the best solution for the tasks that he was expected
to perform whilst on duty. This involved carrying several sizes of riot shield
for defensive purposes which weigh several kilograms. The solutions we developed
involved a well-fitting suction type socket and use of the innovative Touch
Bionics’ electronic hand. We continued to support Phillip throughout
his training and the assessments he was required to pass in order to return
to active duty. This included working with the Metropolitan Police
directly. There is a deep feeling of satisfaction in returning Phillip to
his normal place of work and knowing that, we will be there to support him
whilst on active duty.
Mark Ledger, Senior Prosthetist
"Two and half years ago, I lost my arm. I saw an advertisement for Dorset Orthopaedic, made enquiries and attended an appointment with my wife. As a serving police officer, I asked if they could they provide a limb that would return me to active duty. It was down to them to find the best available solution at the time. They provided me with the i-LIMB Hand, which is so impressive.
When you arrive for an appointment, the team are there for you and take the time to listen to your needs. Returning to work means passing various tests. It's well within my capabilities. Of course, I'd give anything to get my limb back. But thanks to Dorset Orthopaedic, nothing is holding me back now."
