Heather Mills
Heather is
probably the most famous amputee in the world today. She tragically lost
her leg in a road traffic accident in August 1993. Heather was the first
amputee to be fitted with a silicone high definition cosmesis from Dorset
Orthopaedic in 1993. Her constructive comments have helped us to continually
improve the appearance of our artificial limbs and is presently trialling
our new LOK-IN silicone liner. This socket liner is uniquely designed to
eliminate all pistoning within the socket and thus improve socket comfort.
Heather has commented ‘this is the most comfortable socket I have
ever worn’. Heather is an extremely active amputee who runs, skis
and roller blades. The unique design of socket from Dorset Orthopaedic enables
Heather to maintain her very busy lifestyle and the superb silicone cosmetic
craftsmanship of the company's limbs ensures that, when photographed, you
just cannot tell which leg is real and which is silicone.
Bob Watts, Prosthetist and Managing Director
"On 8 August 1993, my life changed. Crossing Kensington Road in London, a police motorcycle knocked me down. Among my many injuries, I lost my left leg below the knee.
Since then, Dorset Orthopaedic has provided me with my prosthetic limbs. The company knows that achieving exceptional function is only half the story. It is not enough that a prosthesis should help people regain mobility in their lives. Comfort is also a priority. Without this, people simply would not use their limbs.
For me, as for many others, the look of my limb is so important. That's where Dorset Orthopaedic come into their own. The team specialises in silicone cosmetic covers that make prosthetic limbs appear like a natural part of the body. They give people such a confidence boost, knowing others will never know they have an artificial limb.
I was so impressed with the company's silicone covers, I discussed making
them more affordable for amputees throughout the world. Working with Dorset
Orthopaedic's technicians, we developed a silicone cover range in 25 different
skins tones.
I cannot recommend Dorset Orthopaedic enough. The team treats its clients not just as patients but as equal partners, devoting time, care and attention to meeting their needs. Failure to provide the right prosthesis is never an option. Each expert works tirelessly to create a prosthetic solution that allows everyone to live an active life in complete comfort and confidence."
