Breaking boundaries, setting standards
Leading Prosthetist, Bob Watts, launched Dorset Orthopaedic in 1989. From the outset, Bob wanted to create the UK's leading prosthetic and orthotic centre, comprising some of the country's finest Prosthetists and Technicians. Bob and his team focused on the three vital elements to providing quality prosthetic and orthotic products: comfort, function and cosmetics.
To get the most from artificial limbs, amputees must first experience a comfortable socket. Next, the Prosthetist must achieve perfect function in the artificial limb. In 1992, Bob became the Prosthetist to the British Paralympic Team, helping the company understand how to achieve maximum function in each prosthesis.
In 1993, Heather Mills lost her leg below the knee in a road traffic accident. Working with Heather, Dorset Orthopaedic developed a silicone cosmetic cover. The solution blended almost seamlessly with the body, helping Heather and others overcome their limb loss. The company's spirit of innovation has continued to this day in a suite of market-leading prosthetic, orthotic and rehabilitation services that set the standard for others to follow.
